Imagination and I have a long relationship. I crafted worlds the existed in the lake with its help. I created tales of monsters slicing through the waters below my house thanks to what imagination was willing to share. Trees and animals talked with me as I walked in the woods around the town. All of my mind was filled with amazing ideas and possibilities, thanks to imagination. For a long time, imagination and I grew dreams that reflected sparkles and rainbows. I had not experienced enough of the world and its negatives to dampen the sparks. Life has a way of pushing things to the dark side. My first experience with the men in the shadows happened at my spend the night party when I turned nine. We found a key in the basement and a few moments later one of the girls shouted she saw someone in the window. …Continue reading
Alabama Bloggers Drive Me to Consistency
“You can mark my words, something is about to break.” I heard the words of the song several years ago and immediately printed them out. They hung about my computer until the tornadoes of 2011 rearranged everything in my life. In some ways, I think I am still struggling to get things together. In other ways, I KNOW I am still struggling to put things together. No matter what I face, I know that if …Continue reading
How John Locke and Willie Nelson Have Changed My Life
Nobody who knows me (or spends more than a few moments with me) accuses me of being a conformist. I pride myself at being unique. I wear the label of “not normal” like a neon sign. I prefer not to fit into the mold determined by others. I dare to be different. And then I started writing professionally. The motto of the publishing industry must be “conform or die” because that is all that I …Continue reading
Walking the Line of Internet Connections
Social Media and internet technology have made connecting so much easier – and so much more difficult. The ease of connections make it possible to catapult your possibilities to a whole new level. The fine line of online etiquette can make knowing how to utilize those connections a tough walk. “Tommy Blaze posted on my Facebook.” I have had interesting connections happen through the internet before. This one made me giggle like a school girl. …Continue reading
The Pain of the One-Star Review
It happened. The warning from other authors should have prepared me, but can one ever be prepared for the searing pain of that one star rating? The day started wonderful. I had my quiet time, then breakfast and bible study with the kids, and then the men folk headed out into the field to pull weeds – actually they walked out into the front yard, but I am a writer and will indulge that creative …Continue reading
Freebies, Friends and Focus – Steps for Building Relationships
Staying busy seems to keep me focused on doing what I know to do. Maybe it is because there is no time to do the things I know I should not be doing in the first place. Maybe it is because I know that the next step is just moments away. But no matter what the reason, the more I have on my plate the more I find I can get done. Setting up a …Continue reading

Building My Writing Career with a Writing Platform
Building my writing platform can be as tough as building a physical platform for my children’s fort. It can be made all the more difficult because I can put off building my writing platform, but putting off determined kids can be impossible. But I have to build it or they will never come – in my case the readers will never know me, buy and read my book and send me on a viral surge …Continue reading
Sharing on the Way to Writing Success
My delight comes from seeing my words sprout up around the internet like the blossoms of spring. Each time someone shares a link on Facebook I smile. A retweet on Twitter makes me giggle (because I get to say I was retweeted and it sounds funny). Seeing a post take off can be one of the best moments of my week. So I thank all of you that have shared, retweeted and reposted because you …Continue reading
Sharing Words of Reflections to Inspire and Encourage
Some weeks the world looks at my schedule and agrees to comply. This was not one of those weeks. Life and the world conspired to break me down and crush me under their weight. It would have been an easy thing to do – just lie down and be crushed. I made the choice to not slow down because a moving target is MUCH harder to hit. I missed sharing my adventures around the internet …Continue reading
Continue to PUSH to Reach Success
Keep moving. That one piece of advice will not only help to keep you from getting stuck in the mud in Alabama, but it will also help to keep you from getting stuck in life. This week for me was all about the persistence to keep moving. There were challenges, but I would be deluded to think that life will ever leave me without challenges. I have to find a way around, or over or …Continue reading
