Proud To Be Peculiar
I’m not normal. Just ask anyone who has ever met me. The words used to describe me are more likely to be unusual, weird, or just plain bizarre. I’m willing to accept these descriptions because I do tend to walk to a different beat. I’m proud to be peculiar.
It was during church one night that I received biblical confirmation of my oddness. There was no burning bush and no one walked on water, but my pastor did affirm that I was different from the rest. “What kind of people does God want us to be?” He asked the congregation. The answer is in Titus 2:14 - Peculiar. I could barely hold myself in the seat. He looked right at me and smiled. “You got that one down, don’t you?”
You know you are different when the pastor announces it to the congregation!
I should have been offended that everyone around me was also nodding their agreement. It’s just hard to get mad at being labeled different when you wear that label so proudly. Peculiar is my way of life!
One of the definitions that Webster gives for peculiar is exclusive. I have firmly embraced that definition of peculiar, and am inviting you to join me. This is your chance to be “a peculiar people” and join the “exclusive” Peculiar Club.
For those of you who let the lady with a couple of items go before you in the check-out line, you can join. For the ones who gather up the stray carts before going in the store, you are also welcome. For everyone who has ever been caught singing out loud to the elevator muzak, come on aboard. If you look around, you will find that there are already members of the Peculiar Club all around you. Who knows, there may be one sitting next to you right now.
We’ll let anyone in that wants to join. It’s exclusive because you have to dare to be different. You have to put others before yourself – and do so with a joyful heart. The benefits that you get from this club are above and beyond anything you can think or imagine.
What are you waiting for – start being peculiar today!
